Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger II, U.S. Airways pilot of flight 1549, was hailed Thursday by his fellow riders for their safety delta wounded Airbus A320 in New York City's Hudson River.

Aviation experts say that water landing was not only extraordinary, but intelligent.

Sullenberger, 57, is a veteran of 29 years in the USUS Airways and a former fighter pilot of the Air Force. The resident of California - a husband and father of two children - is also a security consultant for high-risk industries.

"What he has done in these circumstances is simply magnificent," said Freeman recommended that retired U.S. Airways pilot.

Landing on water, often with fewer obstacles, experts say.
